About Gamal al-Banna Gamal al-Banna (also: Jamal al-Banna, Arabic: جمال البنا‎; born on 15 December 1920 in Mahmudiya, Egypt) is an Egyptian scholar of Islam, publicist, and trade unionist. He has written more than 100 books (his first one in 1945) on religious, political, and trade union issues. His office (and apartment) is located in Cairo. He is the youngest brother of Hassan al-Banna (1906-49), the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. Unlike his brother, however, Gamal al-Banna is a very liberal scholar. Gamal al-Banna is also the great-uncle of the well-known Swiss Muslim Tariq Ramadan.
